If you collect data from EU citizens, you’ve probably heard of the GDPR. Non-compliance regarding this policy can result in fines of up €20 million (sheesh!). To prevent that, we offer a GDPR-compliant platform for any data you need to collect in your working processes.
That’s why Stephen, Development Manager at Appenate, chose GDPR compliance as his favourite feature. Before we begin, here’s a little more about Stephen.
- He loves cars and anything to do with motorsports.
- He enjoys trading on Forex.
- He loves driving and is currently in love with his new BMW.
Let’s get stuck in.
“Appenate’s GDPR compliance allows our customers to take control of their fundamental right to data privacy and control how their private information is processed.” – Stephen
Protect Yourself And Your Users
With its roots in the 1950 European Convention on Human Rights, the GDPR was introduced to protect the personal data privacy of EU citizens. That said, you can help protect both EU and global citizens by selecting a GDPR-compliant platform.
Committing to data privacy helps put your users at ease, ensuring that you won’t use their personal data for anything other than the intended purpose. You’ll also protect your users from potentially harmful data breaches.
That said, always be clear about how you’ll utilise your users’ data. It’s a great way to avoid potentially business-ending fines.
How We Make It Work
We’ve implemented several initiatives to ensure that our platform – and our customers – can remain fully GDPR compliant.
The most notable of these is the “Is Personal Data” flag for data entities on the platform. This ensures that should this data leave the platform, it’s made anonymous and cannot be taken advantage of.
So whether data leaves by manual export, Connector integrations or the Appenate Platform API, your users stay safe, and you can remain fine-free.
How “Is Personal Data” Works
Simply click on a Field within the Form Designer that you deem to be personal data. On the right-hand side of the page, look under “Advanced Options” and check the “Is Personal Data” box.
Voila, that data is now safe and encrypts whenever it leaves the platform. 😉
Before we conclude, when is the right time to use this flag? According to the GDPR, “Since the definition includes “any information,” one must assume that the term “personal data” should be as broadly interpreted as possible.”
So, when in doubt, flag it as personal data. It only takes a few seconds. We only offer the tools for compliance – simply using Appenate does not ensure compliance… it’s up to you to use the tools at hand.
Ensure Your Own GDPR Compliance
While Appenate is GDPR compliant, this doesn’t remove the need to be wary of your digital environment as a whole. Check out this website to get the basics of this strict privacy law.
